Course Overview

This course introduces the student to machine-specific systems. The machines covered in this course include Compact Construction Equipment, Agriculture, Excavators, Off-Highway Trucks, Wheel Loaders, Bulldozers, Scrapers and Motor Graders. The materials presented in this course are intended to give the student a general knowledge of machine-specific systems.

The modules included in this course are:

1 – Advanced Electronically Controlled Engines:

Module Topics

1. Diesel Engine electronic fuel system
   • Explain the operation of and identify components used in electronically controlled fuel systems
2. Diesel Engine Electronic Control Modules

2 – Advanced Powertrain:

1. Power Train electronic controls
   • Explain the operation of and identify components used in electronically controlled transmissions.

3 – Advanced Hydraulics:

1. Safety while:
   • Working with hydraulics
   • Performing maintenance
   • Driving

4 – Heavy Machinery Main Families:

1 – The Wheel Loaders Family

1. Machine specifications
2. Identify machine controls.
3. Locate and identify engine components, hydrostatic components, power train and hydraulic components on the various machine models covered.
4. Calculate machine productivity in various applications.

2 – The Hydraulic Excavator family:

2. Identify machine controls.
3. Locate and identify components related to the pilot system, hydraulic pump and pump control system, hydraulic control valve, swing control system, travel control system and the electronic control system.
