Course Overview:

This technical training course is about Diesel Engines, Construction, Main Systems, Technologies, Operation, and Maintenance.

This course introduces the student to basic diesel engine theory, different systems operation, and safe service procedures. Engines from several manufacturers will be presented with emphasis on the most popular models in the Middle East market.

After successfully completing this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the basic theory of diesel engine operation.
  2. Identify the wide range of engines in the Product Line of most manufacturers.
  3. Identify various diesel engine applications.
  4. Identify basic diesel engine components and their function.
  5. Describe and trace the flow of the following engine systems:
    1. Air intake and exhaust system
    2. Lubrication system
  1. Explain the purpose of lubrication
  2. Describe of Oil functions
    1. Cooling system
    2. Fuel system
  1. Explain the operation of the Mechanical Unit Injector Fuel System.
  2. Identify components used in electronically controlled fuel systems and explain its operation.
  3. Able to troubleshoot common engine problems.
  4. Able to perform safely and efficiently engine preventive maintenance “PM”.
  5. Describe how to perform daily maintenance and walk around inspections for an efficient start.
  6. Understand advanced electronically controlled fuel systems.

  2. Principle Of Diesel Engine:
    • i- The four-stroke cycle
    • ii- Operation of diesel engine
    • iii- Operating systems of the diesel engines.
  3. Components Of Diesel Engine:
  • Basic engine:
    1. Cylinder Block
    2. Cylinder Head
    3. Crankshaft and Connecting Rods
    4. Pistons and Cylinder Liners
    5. Camshaft and Valves
  • Air intake and exhaust system
  • Cooling system
  • Lubrication system
  • Fuel system
  • Starting system.
  1. Preventive Maintenance Of Diesel Engines:
  • Purpose of preventive maintenance
  • PM concepts, principles, and safety
  • Startup and shut down
  • Periodical preventive maintenance.
  • Documentations of maintenance and Engine History File
  1. Diesel Engine Oil Sampling:
  2. Functions of the engine lubrication oil
  3. Metals wear inside a diesel engine
  4. Oil sampling and analysis
  5. Troubleshooting Diesel Engine Problems.
  6. Remote Monitoring Of Diesel Engines
  7. Open Discussion – Post Test – Wrap up.
